Strange, now

One single point, jumping millions of times by the same simple rule. It never lands twice in the same place, yet it never leaves its shape. Where it passes often, light builds up, like a long exposure.

noise synthesizer

Rauschuhr

Twelve noise voices sit around a central hub like the hours on a clock. Each one has its own filter, envelope and rhythm, and the colours of the pads follow the sound.

  • noise, SID and 4-operator FM engines
  • 8-slot LFO workshop, effect groups A–D
  • save patches, record to WAV
open Rauschuhr →
fm grid instrument

Konsonanzgitter

Sixteen FM voices in a 4×4 grid, each triggered by its own LFO against a polyrhythmic master clock. One switch keeps every pitch consonant with every other.

  • scales, chords, overtones, microtonal tunings
  • mutator, snapshots with morph, song mode
  • drone mode for slow ambient fields
open Konsonanzgitter →
algorithmic drum machine

Taktwerk

Eight synthesized drums, each on its own ring. The beats come from rules instead of hands: Euclid spreads k hits over n steps, chance rolls dice weighted by the beat, a cellular automaton grows a new generation every bar.

  • euclidean, chance, automaton or hand-set
  • polymeter: every ring has its own length
  • mutation, swing, export WAV + MIDI
open Taktwerk →
fm step sequencer

Schrittgitter

The simple way in: sixteen FM tones in a 4×4 grid, and a light that walks across them step by step. Every field plays a degree of the chosen scale, so nothing clashes.

  • forward, backward, pendulum, snake or random
  • lock tone, rhythm or timbre against dice and mutator
  • per-field LFO in time, export WAV + MIDI
open Schrittgitter →
sound machine · marble run

Karambolator

The inside of a pachinko machine at night. Steel balls drop through pins, bumpers, rotors, belts and switches, and every hit is a note in one shared scale. Build your own board, let it rain, or put three machines side by side.

  • two dozen parts in five drawers: flippers, portals, magnets, pendulums, gongs, chimes and more
  • up to three machines and eight levels, each with its own scale, key and layout
  • build a random machine, let it rain or storm, follow the balls
open Karambolator →
crackle synthesizer

Knisterkammer

Sixteen crackle generators in a 4×4 field: dust, vinyl, fire, rain, a Geiger counter, sparks, wood, glass and plain noise. Each voice runs through four effect slots in its own order, and one shared room of air holds them together. Built for crackling, dust and dense spaces.

  • 16 voices, four effects each, in any order
  • scenes like a fireside evening or an old shellac record
  • roll the whole chamber, play rows from the keyboard, keep patches
open Knisterkammer →
pulsing pad synthesizer

Schwebewerk

Six slow voices that swell and fade, each on its own pulse. Two modulators per voice move filter, pitch, space or rhythm, and voices can nudge each other. One harmony switch tunes all six to a shared chord and walks them through a progression, so nothing ever clashes.

  • six voices, each with pulsator, filter and two modulators
  • chords, modes, the overtone row and slow chord progressions
  • presets and dice, keyboard control, settings stay in your browser

vision canvas: from a seed word, or from brass and gears

starfield generator

Sternenfeld

A night sky from a seed word: stars with real magnitude and colour statistics, a milky way with dust lanes, nebulae and distant galaxies. Or fly through it.

  • photo, infrared and old-plate palettes
  • invents its own constellations
  • PNG export up to 4K
open Sternenfeld →
maze generator

Irrgarten

Watch a labyrinth being dug, passage by passage. Six algorithms, each with its own handwriting, in square or circular form. Then solve it yourself.

  • backtracker, Prim, Kruskal, Wilson and more
  • distance map and shortest path
  • walk it yourself, export PNG or SVG for print
open Irrgarten →
generative grid

Rauschraster

A grid of small shapes, each turned and sized by flowing simplex noise. Neighbours pull on each other, so the field moves like a living surface. Truchet arcs join into endless paths.

  • eight shapes, three colour modes, nine palettes
  • coupling, warp and speed, from a seed word
  • PNG up to 6000 px, SVG identical to the screen
open Rauschraster →
drawing machine with sound

Räderwerk

A workshop of brass gears, pen arms and a turning plate. The gears drive the pens, the pens draw on the plate, and a chaotic double pendulum tugs at everything. Teeth hum, cams pluck a music box, sensors ring when the ink passes.

  • add gears, axles, cams, pen arms and sensors
  • clockwork, music box or a random machine
  • save the drawing as PNG, the machine as a file
open Räderwerk →
laser pachinko

Strahlwerk

You steer one laser beam into a field of crystals that grow on moving platforms. Mirrors throw it back, prisms fan white light into a rainbow, pearls scatter it into chaos. Every crystal the light touches rings, and together they make a slowly shifting chord.

  • mirrors, prisms, pearls and beam splitters
  • crystals grow, age and grow back; tap a platform to sow one
  • long exposure, PNG and WAV recording
open Strahlwerk →
moving interference

Moiré-Werkstatt

Up to five patterns of lines, circles, rays, dots or waves, laid on top of each other. Each one turns, swings or breathes at its own pace, and where they cross, new shapes appear that none of them contains.

  • five layers, each with its own motion and phase
  • presets, random patterns, drag a layer by hand
  • monochrome or coloured, save as PNG

genetic garden · c64 style

Gengarten 64

A garden of N×N plots in the colours of a Commodore 64. Every plant carries a genome, crosses with its neighbours and mutates, so new species appear on their own. Mostly you watch; now and then you water, prune, cross or breed something in the gene lab.

  • seasons, climate zones, roots that connect
  • gene lab: design your own seeds
  • keeps growing while you are away

deep sea ecosystem

Tiefseegrund

Marine snow drifts down through dark water. Where it settles, small biotopes grow: glass sponges, tube worms, sea lilies. Glowing colonies find a shared rhythm, shoals pass above, lantern fish hunt the light. And everything they drop turns back into snow.

  • scatter snow, stir a current, or shine a lamp
  • take a small submarine down, with light and sonar
  • a slow chord progression, lantern fish sing melodies
open Tiefseegrund →
colony builder

Kristallbau

A swarm of crystal beetles digs its nest underground. You mark tunnels and chambers and say what to gather; the swarm does the rest, carries sand, wood, water and resin, and finds crystal deep in the ground. The queen has wishes, but nothing hurries you.

  • dig, lay out chambers, set gathering orders
  • weather, day and night, small events above ground
  • a soundscape with its own voices
open Kristallbau →
attractor exploration game

Attraktor-Expedition

An expedition through the space of strange attractors, the shapes this site started with. Drift through a map of parameter regions, secure rare finds, fine-tune them and listen to them: x becomes pitch, y becomes timbre, jumps become accents. Missions and new formula families open up as your atlas grows.

  • Clifford and more formula families, each with its own atlas
  • name your finds, rate their rarity, collect them in a field book
  • every find has a sound; export PNG and WAV, progress stays in your browser
open Attraktor-Expedition →
landscape and weather · 8 bit

Windschatten

An 8-bit landscape you build from castle walls, towers, villages and forests, then send snow, sand or rain through it. Drifts gather in the lee of every wall, dunes wander, and the growing drifts play a calm, harmonic music.

  • two dozen ready-made parts: drag whole walls, set towers, ruins, houses and trees
  • snow, sand and rain shape drifts and dunes wherever the wind is sheltered
  • sound objects: wind chimes, a tower bell, an aeolian harp, singing stones
open Windschatten →
coral reef · growth and evolution

Korallengrund

A sunlit coral reef that grows by itself. Eleven growth forms, colours, patterns and glow combine into more than a thousand species; at full moon the corals spawn, cross and mutate, and the reef plays its own growth.

  • eleven growth forms from staghorn to brain coral, over a thousand nameable species
  • full-moon spawning with inheritance, a reef book with goals, fish that move in as the reef grows
  • sound lab: every growth form its own instrument, growth music or a reef score
